Featuring single-origin coffees from small family farms in Ethiopia, Tanzania and Peru, the Janie & Tea Cake blend showcases notes of blueberry, pound cake, and peaches.
“Love makes your soul crawl out from its hiding place.”
-Their Eyes Were Watching God
This coffee is a tribute to the legendary Florida writer and anthropologist, Zora Neale Hurston. The only writer of the Harlem Renaissance hailing from Florida, Zora spent much of her life in Jacksonville and St. Augustine.
In her novel, Their Eyes Were Watching God, she tells a love story about Janie Crawford and her younger lover, Tea Cake. It's also a love story to her community in Eatonville, Florida.
We developed this blend of medium and light roasted coffees to tell a similar story. The medium roasted Ethiopian and Tanzanian coffees reflect a rich African heritage and a joyful, effervescent love bubbling with sweet and fruity flavors. Complemented by the lightly roasted Peruvian coffee from the La Florida estate, which brings notes of brown sugar and the pastries Janie might whip up for Tea Cake on a weekend.
This coffee is our love story to Zora’s Florida. We brought these responsibly sourced and sustainably produced green coffees from small family farms in Africa and South America to be individually roasted and hand-blended in Jacksonville. We hope Zora would be proud.
$1 from each sale of Janie & Tea Cake is contributed to the Eatonville ZoraFest.
