Killer Sufi
This single-origin Ethiopia Sidamo Guji coffee has a bright and earthy sweetness that's brought forward by the light roast, giving it hints of floral, tea-like flavors with fruit-forward characteristics. The album "A Sufi and a Killer" by American of Ethiopian descent, Gonjasufi, feels timeless and new and mystical, like the magical birthplace of coffee, Ethiopia. Enjoy this naturally sweet coffee filter-brewed.
Flavor notes: Dried apricot, marzipan, and baklava
Roasting notes: Light roast
Grown in Sidamo, Ethiopia, Guji is a zone of the Oromia Region of Southern Ethiopia known for producing some amazing natural coffees at an elevation of 1700-1900 meters above sea level (MASL). This heirloom varietal is processed naturally on raised beds and sheltered from the elements, allowing air to flow on all sides of the fruit to control the drying process. Drying the coffee seed inside the fruit is what gives the coffee its distinct fruit-forward profile.
“What appears messy and thrown together is anything but… Gonjasufi lays down psychedelic studio tricks and goes to work with the steady hand of a world-class surgeon -- or at least a Dr. Frankenstein.” reports NPR. “Countless genres are chemically fused, making it difficult to trace which ideas came from where. A Spanish-language vocal blares with megaphone force over a chunky, low-end beat while gnarled guitars slither through the mix, heavy with distortion. Much of the beat is based on a heavy sample of ‘Bella Kali,’ a forgotten funk jam from the sister rockers in Las Grecas.”
“The hood ornament on this jalopy is the rusted voice of Gonjasufi, who may just be the most unusual man on the mic since Wu-Tang Clan's Ol' Dirty Bastard. Gonjasufi isn't acting alone, though: Producers such as Mainframe, the Gaslamp Killer, and Flying Lotus -- all rap experimentalists in their own right -- leave their fingerprints all over his debut album, A Sufi and a Killer.”
