Shantyboat Hymns
Celebrating radical naturalist painter Jim Draper’s new book, Shantyboat Stories, this blend includes the earthy, rhubarb and sweet tea-like tannins from our lightest roasted Ethiopia, blended with the chocolatey richness of our darkest roasted Brazil, which combine to create a rich, complex espresso or an exotic filter brew.
Flavor notes: Milk chocolate, Rhubarb pie, Cypress Tannin
Roast: Light and dark
These coffees are both grown on small family farms and naturally fermented. The Ethiopia is grown in the Sidamo region at 1700-1900 MASL. The Brazil comes from the Cerrado region of Minas Gerais, at 915-1200 MASL.
Jim Draper’s Shantyboat Stories paints rich tapestries of life in the South, spanning childhoods in Mississippi to the woods and marshes of Florida and beyond.
Draper explores human nature and nature without the humans under the drapery of Spanish moss and swimming through the sweet tannins of southern swimming holes. As he writes in Hymns at Rock Creek, “The water felt silky, tasted sweet. A dark tea steeped with oak leaves and pine. Palmetto.”
